Beijing, August 10 /Xinhua/ — The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Emergency Management of China on Monday allocated 180 million yuan (about 26.52 million US dollars) from the central disaster relief fund to support the affected regions of the country.
The corresponding decision was made considering that the 13th typhoon of this year, “Dolphin,” caused heavy rains and severe flooding in Eastern China, while certain areas in the northwestern part of the country continue to suffer from prolonged drought.
1.2 billion yuan has been allocated to the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, and Jiangxi (all in East China) to support emergency rescue operations after floods and a typhoon.
The funds will primarily be used for conducting search and rescue operations, evacuation and temporary accommodation of residents, threat elimination, identification and mitigation of risks of secondary natural disasters, and restoration of damaged and destroyed homes.
The remaining 60 million yuan were allocated to the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (Northern China), the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (Northwest China), and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps to combat the ongoing drought.
The funding will primarily be used to address tasks such as ensuring access to drinking water for urban and rural residents, purchasing and leasing equipment for water storage, purification, and supply, and engaging personnel to work on providing urban and rural populations with water for household needs.
Ministries demanded that local authorities use funds effectively and transparently to achieve maximum impact in protecting the lives and well-being of people. –0–
