Harbin, August 6 /Xinhua/ — On Thursday, the northernmost high-speed railway (HSR) in the country was put into trial operation in Heilongjiang Province (Northeast China).
As part of the test run on the new line, the train departed from the city of Harbin, the administrative center of the said province, at 7:40 a.m., and arrived at the destination in the city of Yichun, bordering Russia across the Heilongjiang /Amur/ River, 2 hours and 2 minutes later.
According to the Harbin branch of the state corporation “China Railway” (CR), the high-speed rail testing process will follow realistic operational scenarios, during which it is planned to work out the relevant train schedule parameters, test the ability to respond to malfunctions, comprehensively organize passenger transportation, ensure the punctuality of train arrivals and departures, the frequency of trips, the readiness of passenger service facilities, as well as the compatibility of various operating systems, in order to provide a scientific basis for the official opening of the railway line.
The design speed of the Harbin-Yichun high-speed railway (HSR) is 250 km per hour, with a total line length of 318 km, of which 72 percent consists of bridges due to the complex local terrain. The opening of this route will reduce travel time between the two cities from the previous 7 hours to approximately 2 hours.
The opening of this HSR is expected to play an important role in the comprehensive revitalization of Heilongjiang Province, one of China’s old industrial bases, and will contribute to the development of tourism and the exploitation of natural resources.
