Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Chernyshenko and Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov spoke about the creation of scientific popularization tourism routes within the framework of the Decade of Science and Technology.

“The science-popular tourism initiative was developed on the orders of our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. It is a true guide to the world of domestic technologies and outstanding scientists. The program helps even more children and youth to consider a career in research and development, and adult travelers to once again feel pride for the country. Already today, within the framework of the Decade of Science and Technology, about 110 routes have been created in 35 regions of Russia. Their number is constantly growing – more than 30 new routes have appeared in 2.5 years,” said Deputy Prime Minister, co-chairman of the Coordination Committee of the Decade of Science and Technology Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The head of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, Valery Falkov, noted that popular science tourism develops most actively in regions with a high concentration of universities, scientific organizations, research infrastructure, and educational platforms.
“Most participants in our project are interested in places where they can see science in action, and these are laboratories, scientific centers, observatories, planetariums, science museums, technoparks, and high-tech productions,” the Minister noted.
The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia regularly updates the All-Russian Register of Scientific and Popular Tourism Sites. It includes more than 1,300 sites open to the general public.
Special attention is given to working with regions. Thus, in 2025, for the first time, a project accelerator on science popularization tourism was held, with participation from 57 subjects of Russia. All teams went through the process from developing an idea to creating a “roadmap” for the development of science popularization tourism in their region.
The leaders in popular science tourism were Saint Petersburg, the republics of Tyva, Bashkortostan, Sakha, Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk, Perm, Stavropol Krais, Amur, Arkhangelsk, Irkutsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Ryazan, Samara, and Tambov regions.
Recall that the GOST standard for popular science tourism has previously come into force.
The “Science Popularization Tourism” initiative of the Decade of Science and Technology has been implemented since 2022 with the aim of attracting talented youth to the field of research and development, and increasing the accessibility of information about the achievements and prospects of Russian science.
