Specialists of Moscow’s urban infrastructure complex rehabilitated the cascade of Yasenevsky Ponds in the southwest of the capital. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing and Communal Services and Improvement Petr Biryukov.
“The Upper, Middle, and Lower Yasenye Ponds are located within the park on Paustovsky Street. This is a favorite recreational spot for local residents. However, previously the bodies of water were in unsatisfactory condition: large volumes of silt deposits had accumulated at the bottom, leading to a reduction in depth and active overgrowth with algae, with erosion of the shorelines observed. In this regard, a decision was made to carry out comprehensive rehabilitation of the ponds, and currently all planned work has been completed in full,” noted Petr Biryukov.
More than three thousand square meters of silt were removed from ponds with a total area of 1.4 hectares. Then the beds of the water bodies were formed and a waterproof layer was made. This allowed for an increase in the maximum depth.
After that, the shoreline stretches more than 800 meters long were repaired using gravel and crushed stone backfilling. In the final stage, three bioplato zones with a total area of over 348 square meters were put in order, where about 5,700 aquatic plants will be planted. In addition, the operation of the water discharge facilities was restored.
Urban utility specialists regularly conduct inspections of the capital’s water bodies, and if problems are identified, decisions are made regarding their rehabilitation. The list of water bodies is compiled annually, taking into account the wishes of Muscovites.
