Beijing, August 4 /Xinhua/ — In the first half of 2026, the volume of grain imports into China through the Alashankou Border Port /Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Northwest China/ reached 678,000 tons, an increase of 97.5 percent compared to the same period last year, the government of Alashankou city reported on its website.
As one of the border crossings designated for importing grain into China, Alashankou, relying on the advantages of its geographical location and administrative support measures, fully unleashes the potential of the logistics channel to ensure stable and reliable supply of raw materials for Chinese grain and oil processing enterprises.
Currently, the Alashankou Customs regulates a total of 4 specialized facilities designed to control imported grain, which can simultaneously conduct inspections of grain transported in bags or in bulk. The advanced infrastructure has laid a solid foundation for the rapid growth of grain import volumes through the aforementioned border crossing.
Given the specifics of mass grain deliveries and the requirements for its rapid transshipment, the local customs introduced a convenient “conditional shipment” regime, which made it possible to reduce the time each cargo batch stays at the checkpoint by 5-7 days and cut customs clearance costs by almost 80%, effectively reducing the burden on storage facilities.
At the same time, thanks to the laboratory’s intelligent system, the entire process of submitting samples for testing, tracking the progress of work, and notifying about test results is carried out online and in a closed loop, while testing time is reduced by more than 30 percent.
Li Godun, Deputy Head of the Railway Inspection Department of Alashankou Customs, reported that local customs officers, having learned in advance about the enterprises’ import needs, carry out priority inspection and examination of grain imported by rail transport to ensure swift customs clearance of such cargo.
According to him, in the first half of the current year, the Alashankou customs controlled the import of 627 thousand tons of grain through the Alashankou railway checkpoint, which is 97.6 percent more than in the same period last year.
The significant increase in grain imports through the Alashankou checkpoint is not only the result of rising demand in the Chinese market but also reflects the consistent use of the advantages of this checkpoint as a logistics channel, according to a statement from the Alashankou city government.
