About 980 thousand gas stoves installed in apartments were inspected by specialists in the capital urban economy complex since the beginning of the year. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing, Utilities, and Improvement Pyotr Biryukov.
“Gas safety issues are under special control, and scheduled maintenance of the entire gasified housing stock is carried out annually. From January to July, the operability and compliance with requirements of about 980 thousand gas stoves were checked, which accounts for almost 55 percent of the total number. Minor malfunctions detected are eliminated on the spot by gas service technicians, and in case of serious violations, they necessarily eliminate the threat to safety and provide recommendations for further operation and repair,” noted Petr Biryukov.
The owner or tenant of the residential premises is responsible for maintaining the gas equipment in proper condition and for its replacement.
Currently, more than 1.8 million families in Moscow use gas stoves. Timely inspections are very important for the safe operation of the equipment. The average lifespan of a stove is 10–12 years. After that, gas valves begin to wear out, burner diffusers become deformed, and the oven’s thermal insulation is compromised. In such cases, it is impossible to maintain the safe operation of the appliances, so replacement is necessary.
In addition, the stove must be equipped with a gas control system that shuts off the fuel supply if the burner flame goes out.
Information about the dates and times of gas equipment inspections is posted in advance on the website of JSC “Mosgaz,” as well as on stands installed in the entrances and courtyards of apartment buildings.
