Beijing, August 3 /Xinhua/ — According to a joint notice from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the PRC and two other state departments, China has for the first time launched the selection of “leading enterprises in energy efficiency and carbon efficiency in key industries” for the year 2026.
This measure is aimed at facilitating the implementation by industrial enterprises of energy-saving and carbon emissions reduction measures, as well as encouraging the transition of key sectors to a green and low-carbon economy.
According to the report, the first batch of the candidate list includes enterprises from five sectors: aluminum electrolysis, cement clinker, ammonia synthesis, ethylene, and methanol, recognized as “leaders in carbon efficiency.”
Earlier, China launched the “Energy Efficiency Leading Enterprises” program, under which lists of 8 batches were published, including a total of 224 energy efficiency leading enterprises in key industries covering 35 industry segments. Currently, the program encompasses a total of 43 subsectors due to the addition of new segments such as the production of industrial sulfuric acid and industrial glacial acetic acid.
To qualify for the title of “leaders in carbon and energy efficiency,” enterprises must reach a certain threshold of “green” electricity consumption and not use any outdated technologies, equipment, or products explicitly prohibited by the state or included in the list of restrictions and phase-outs.
“Conducting a selection of leading enterprises in energy efficiency and carbon effectiveness in key industries is an important measure that promotes comprehensive implementation of energy-saving and carbon emission reduction measures,” said Chen Daji, Deputy Head of the China Institute of Electronic Technology Standardization.
