Beijing, August 2 /Xinhua/ — The China Association of Cotton Producers (CACP) has strongly disagreed with the U.S. decision to include 43 Chinese companies, including enterprises in the cotton industry, on the list of entities subject to the so-called “Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act.” The association stated that this move seriously violates the basic rules of international trade.
The statement published on Saturday by CAEXC indicates that the American accusations of “using forced labor” lack factual and legal grounds. It is emphasized that China’s cotton industry consistently follows a modern development path in accordance with market laws.
The association noted that in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, one of China’s key cotton-producing regions, more than 90 percent of cotton harvesting is currently carried out mechanized, while the entire industry production chain—from cultivation and harvesting to processing and textile production—is characterized by a high degree of automation and production scaling.
CAPCH emphasized that the labor rights and interests of cotton producers and workers in this industry are strictly protected by Chinese law, and their choice of workplace is completely voluntary. “There is simply no so-called ‘forced labor’,” the statement said.
It notes that the actions of the United States ignore the facts, applying the principle of “presumption of guilt” towards Chinese companies. According to CAPH, the true purpose of such measures is the politicization and weaponization of human rights issues to curb the development of China’s cotton industry.
As warned by the association, the imposed sanctions will undermine the stability of global manufacturing and supply chains in the cotton industry and damage the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.
China’s cotton industry is confident in its capabilities and capable of overcoming challenges posed by external pressures, emphasized at CAPH, highlighting that China possesses the most complete production chain in the cotton industry worldwide, a super-large domestic consumer market, and an ever-diversifying structure of international sales markets.
