How to choose a profession, decide on a university, and become a sought-after specialist was explained by the Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Olga Petrova to the participants of the “University Shifts” at the State University of Management.
On July 31, the solemn opening of the new season of the federal program “University Shifts” took place at the State University of Management. This year, 50 talented young people from across the country arrived at our university to experience what it is like to be first-year management students.
Participants were welcomed by Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Olga Petrova and Vice-Rector of the State University of Management Pavel Pavlovsky.
“Today you have unlimited opportunities. This year the program is already five years old. Many of its graduates have found their dream profession and university, and have been able to find themselves. ‘University shifts’ allow you to dream and expand the horizons of your thinking. Knowledge is something that belongs only to you. Be ready to learn new things and pursue your goal,” Olga Viktorovna wished to those gathered.
Pavel Pavlovsky noted that “University shifts” is one of the best projects for schoolchildren, which allows them to get acquainted with the country’s universities, make friends from different regions, and become a unified team.
Participants in the shift were able to speak directly with the Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education and receive advice on career choice, self-determination, and even a summer reading list.
Olga Petrova spoke about the reform of higher education, noting that any programs will consist of three elements: fundamental knowledge about the world, a professional core, and a practice-oriented part.
When choosing a field of study, the deputy minister advised selecting the area in which acquiring knowledge brings pleasure, since education does not end with university but continues throughout life. To decide on a university for admission, Olga Viktorovna recommended paying attention to employers’ reviews and the success of graduates.
Speaking about the professions of the future and the skills needed today, Olga Petrova emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary knowledge, digital competencies, and working with artificial intelligence. At the same time, according to her, teachers, doctors, and government employees will always remain in demand.
“You need to bring creation and any profession will be yours if you dedicate yourself to it fully,” concluded the guest.
The dialogue ended perhaps on the warmest topic – books. Olga Petrova noted that novels of Russian classics will always be mandatory reading. According to her, the works of Pushkin, Dostoevsky, and Tolstoy are not just books, but an important part of our cultural code, to which one wants to return again and again.
On the second day of the camp, the schoolchildren had a day from the “Movement of the First.” In an interactive game format, the kids got to know more closely the directions of activity of the Russian Movement of Children and Youth, its values and guidelines. Most of the participants of the camp are already members of the movement, so they were interested in the practical opportunities for further personal development together with the Firsts.
Recall that the State University of Management has been conducting the “University Shifts” for five years — since the first year of the project’s launch. This year, our university will host two shifts of high school students from across Russia. The students will have an extensive educational program, career guidance activities, city tours, and an entertainment program. The project involves more than 100 leading universities in Russia and is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, the Ministry of Education of Russia, the Movement of the First, Rosmolodezh, and SBER.
