Bishkek, July 31 /Xinhua/ — An informal Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan took place in the city of Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, on Friday.
The event was attended by the presidents of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedow, and Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
S. Zhaparov noted that in recent years regional cooperation has reached a qualitatively new level, facilitated by historic agreements achieved on state border issues and the strengthening of mutual trust. He also emphasized that Kyrgyzstan intends to consistently promote the common interests of Central Asia on the international stage.
Sh. Mirziyoyev called for strengthening coordination within interstate organizations and formats “Central Asia Plus,” enhancing the region’s international subjectivity. “Further steps require detailed work to strengthen trade-economic and transport connectivity, to build through industrial-technological chains, to develop common digital services, and to launch investment platforms,” he noted.
E. Rakhmon noted the growing international interest in the region, which, in his opinion, opens new opportunities for expanding trade and economic ties, attracting investments and technologies. He stated that among the common priorities of the countries in the region remain issues of developing transport corridors and logistics, as well as energy, industry, digitalization, and food security.
I. Aliyev pointed out that relations with the countries of Central Asia are one of the priorities of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy, assuring that Azerbaijan will make every effort to further expand cooperation and bring the countries and peoples of the region even closer together.
The Presidents adopted the Cholpon-Ata Declaration. According to S. Japarov, the signed declaration reflects the high level of trust between the Central Asian states and Azerbaijan, their commitment to the principles of peace, good neighborliness, and sustainable development, as well as their desire to further expand regional cooperation. –0–
