Beijing, July 31 /Xinhua/ — Since the beginning of 2026, about 2 million elderly people with disabilities in China have received government subsidies for care services, the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the PRC announced Thursday at a press conference.
Subsidies are provided to elderly people who have been assessed as having a moderate or more severe degree of disability based on criteria evaluating their ability to perform daily activities, as well as their mental, sensory, and cognitive functions.
The Chinese government introduced this nationwide subsidy program earlier this year after several months of pilot testing in certain regions. So far, companies and individuals providing elderly care services across the country have recorded payments under this program totaling more than 6.5 billion yuan / approximately 957 million USD, the ministry reported.
According to the ministry’s estimates, the subsidy program provided an increase in the elderly care services sector amounting to 29 billion yuan. -0-
