Beijing, July 31 /Xinhua/ — China has launched a nationwide annual campaign to intensify the fight against organized crime, with authorities pledging to combat both traditional criminal groups and new forms of organized crime that are primarily emerging on the internet.
Member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, head of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee Chen Wenqing made corresponding statements at the nationwide conference on combating organized crime held via video link.
Chen Wenqing positively assessed the results achieved in the fight against organized crime after the 20th National Congress of the CPC, emphasizing the need to deepen the understanding of the forms and characteristics of organized crime under the new conditions.
According to him, the authorities will maintain a tough stance toward organized crime, focusing their main efforts on criminal groups that exploit internet platforms or resort to so-called “soft violence” — including organized actions such as bullying, systematic persecution, and creating public disorder aimed at exerting psychological pressure on citizens — to carry out illegal activities.
Calling for efforts to eradicate the “protective umbrellas” that shield organized crime, Chen Wenqing stated that as part of the campaign, work will also be intensified to prevent and address problems in key sectors and regions most vulnerable to organized crime, in order to combat both the criminal activities themselves and the conditions that enable their proliferation. –0–
