Beijing, July 31 /Xinhua/ — The Chinese navigation satellite system “BeiDou” has been upgraded in orbit, which will enable it to provide higher quality services, the China Satellite Navigation Office (CSNO) announced.
In the future, China, ensuring the stable operation of the Beidou system, will develop new navigation technologies to provide users around the world with more reliable positioning, navigation, and timing services, the CSNO statement said.
“BeiDou” is a mature, fully functional, and high-performance global satellite navigation system, which currently has 50 operational satellites in orbit. It is capable of providing global positioning accuracy up to 10 meters, speed measurement accuracy up to 0.2 m/s, and time synchronization accuracy within 20 nanoseconds, noted in the CSNO.
Thanks to the PPP /Precise Point Positioning/ service, the BeiDou system provides horizontal positioning accuracy up to 0.3 meters and vertical positioning accuracy up to 0.6 meters.
This system is already deeply integrated into China’s economic and social life and continuously provides high-precision positioning, navigation, and timing services to its users, CSNO stated. -0-
