The city of Wuxi in Jiangsu Province is actively expanding its capacity for mass production of commercial satellites, heralding a new era of “mass satellite manufacturing.”

On July 20, 2026, the research tour “Energetic China” began in the city of Changzhou, Jiangsu Province. More than one hundred journalists participated. They will visit Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, and other cities of the province to study their development.

The first site visited was the commercial space industry. Reporters arrived at Jiangsu Guoyu Starry Sky Technology, located in the Wuxi high-tech zone. Its parent company, MinoSpace Technology, is one of the first Chinese enterprises engaged in the development of integrated satellites. Today, it confidently ranks among the leading domestic manufacturers of high-class satellites.

At the company’s intelligent production line, the entire process — from component assembly to environmental testing — is highly automated. Previously, it took 3 to 4 months to build a single satellite, but now a satellite can be ready to leave the line in just 20-25 days. This line is the most productive in Jiangsu Province: it can annually manufacture over 150 satellites weighing between 200 and 500 kg, and can simultaneously produce different types of satellites, including optical remote sensing and low-orbit communication satellites.

After assembly is completed, the satellites can be immediately directed for testing on equipment installed right on the factory premises, including thermal vacuum chambers, vibration stands, and electromagnetic compatibility systems, where extreme conditions of outer space are simulated and reliability is tested. This significantly reduces the testing cycle. As of the end of the first quarter of this year, this line has already reached the stage of stable pilot operation. Several remote sensing satellites have been delivered to customers, and subsequently, they will be launched into orbit in batches to form a network, supporting the construction of a low Earth orbit satellite internet infrastructure.

From the development of an individual product in the laboratory to mass production on an industrial assembly line, the operation of this satellite manufacturing complex marks a new stage in the development of China’s commercial space industry. The previous model characterized by high costs and long production times has been changed, and large-scale serial production significantly lowers the entry barrier in the field of commercial satellite creation.

Technological breakthroughs are accelerating the process of industrial agglomeration. By the end of 2025, there were 325 enterprises in this supply chain in Wuxi, of which 52 large enterprises generated a total annual revenue of more than 14.4 billion yuan.

The Wuxi High-Tech Zone has created the city’s only industrial cluster for commercial spaceflight, covering the entire chain—from the production of satellites and rockets to the formation of orbital constellations and their applications. Currently, the scale of the commercial space industry in this zone exceeds 2 billion yuan, with 30 key enterprises and 28 municipal-level and higher research platforms operating here.
