Algeria, July 30 /Xinhua/ — The newly elected National People’s Assembly of Algeria /the lower house of parliament/ began its work on Tuesday evening as part of its 10th convocation and elected Khalida Boufedj as the first female speaker in the country’s history.
H. Boufedesh from the ruling National Liberation Front (FLN) received 302 votes at the first session, defeating Amin Allouche from the Movement of the Society for Peace (MSP), who received 57 votes.
Her election was widely expected after the FNO became the largest party in the parliamentary elections on July 2, winning 91 out of 407 seats, followed by the National Democratic Alliance party with 74 seats, the Future Front with 56 seats, and the MSP with 43 seats.
