Hangzhou, July 29 /Xinhua/ — The total import and export volume of Yiwu city /Zhejiang Province, East China/, known as the ‘world supermarket,’ reached 486.42 billion yuan /about 71.64 billion US dollars/ in the first half of 2026, an increase of 19.9 percent year-on-year. From January to June this year, the city’s exports reached a record high of 420.72 billion yuan, increasing by 17.3 percent, while imports grew by 39.1 percent to 65.7 billion yuan.
Since the beginning of this year, local suppliers have been profiting from global sporting events, such as the FIFA World Cup, which have contributed to the steady growth of sports goods exports. Yiwu Customs has implemented a new model that allows for parallel inspection of cargo and its loading into containers at customs warehouses. This reform has increased the efficiency of export deliveries by 30%.
While strengthening its positions in traditional markets, Yiwu’s foreign trade network continues to expand. In the first half of the year, the city conducted trade with 230 countries and regions, which is four more than in the same period last year.
As for imports, Yiwu is purchasing more and more goods from all over the world. In January-June, the volume of consumer goods imports reached 31 billion yuan, representing a 19.5 percent year-on-year increase.
