Washington, July 27 /Xinhua/ — U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday a decision to suspend American strikes on Iran to give negotiations another chance, warning that he might order a resumption of strikes if talks with the Islamic Republic fail.
“We are conducting very intense negotiations with Iran. If they do not succeed, we will return to very decisive military actions,” said D. Trump in an interview with the American portal Axios.
When asked how much time he is willing to devote to diplomacy, the American leader replied: “Not that much time. Either everything will happen quickly, or it won’t happen at all.”
On July 24, D. Trump stated that he decided to suspend the strikes because the countries acting as intermediaries, as well as other countries in the region, asked him to give the negotiations with Iran one more chance.

The American leader also confirmed that Iranian assets controlled by the USA would be used to cover the damage suffered by ships attacked while passing through the Strait of Hormuz. “We are using Iran’s money to pay for the damage they caused,” he said.
