Harbin, July 26 /Xinhua/ — On Saturday, the installation of all the beams of the Tongjiang Bridge, the longest new bridge on the border sections of the three main land corridors (western, central, and eastern) of the China-Europe international rail freight routes, was completed. This event marks the full completion of construction work on the main track of the reconstructed Jiamusi-Tongjiang railway line in Heilongjiang Province (Northeast China).

The reconstructed Jiamusi-Tongjiang line, with a total length of 258.25 km, is a main railway line prioritizing freight as well as passenger transportation. It is part of the ‘eastern corridor’ of the China-Europe international rail freight network.

The Tunjiang Bridge, with a total length of 10,435.14 m, was designed and constructed by the state corporation “China Railways” /CR/. According to the builders, the final 650th beam was installed on July 25. Beam-laying work began in September 2025.

According to the designer, the new overpass scheme of the bridge minimized the impact on the valuable agricultural lands of the Sanjiang Plain – one of the country’s main granaries, as well as preserved the ecological balance of the territory.

With the completion of beam laying on the Tunjiang bridge, construction work on the main track of the reconstructed Jiamusi-Tunjiang line is practically finished, and the entire section is moving to the rail-laying phase. It is expected that after the project’s completion, the throughput capacity of the Tunjiang railway checkpoint will increase fourfold, and the volumes of foreign trade transportation of bulk goods such as coal and iron ore will also significantly grow. -0-
