Cholpon-Ata /Kyrgyzstan/, July 25 /Xinhua/ — Member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met on Friday with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi and called for the early resumption of talks and the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), aimed at reducing tensions in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Wan Yi stated that China is deeply concerned about the renewed escalation of tensions in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region.
He noted that the MOU signed more than a month ago was a valuable result of the mediation efforts of several parties and reflects the aspirations of the Iranian people and other peoples of the region for peace and stability. He added that the progress achieved through dialogue must not be lost.
“The door for negotiations, once opened, should not be closed, and as long as there is hope for peace, it must not be left open,” said Wang Yi.
He emphasized that the immediate task is to resolve disagreements through dialogue and negotiations and to resume the implementation of the agreements reached within the framework of the OSCE.
According to him, as a comprehensive strategic partner of Iran, China firmly supports Iran in defending its sovereignty, security, and national dignity.
He added that China will continue to act in accordance with the four-point proposal to maintain and strengthen peace and stability in the Middle East, support the mediation efforts of Pakistan and other parties, assist in the early resumption of dialogue and negotiations, properly address issues related to the Strait of Hormuz, improve relations between neighboring countries, promote collective security among the Gulf states, and help restore peace and stability in the Middle East as soon as possible.

Araghchi informed Wang Yi about the latest developments in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region, emphasizing that Iran’s readiness for negotiations remains unchanged and Tehran does not wish to prolong the conflict. He urged the United States to fulfill its obligations, exercise restraint, work with Iran to achieve a common goal, and seek a reasonable solution.
He stated that it is extremely important for Iran and China, as comprehensive strategic partners, to strengthen ties and coordination at this critical moment. He thanked China for consistently maintaining an objective and impartial position and promoting peace and dialogue, expressing hope that China will continue to play an important role in facilitating the easing of regional tensions. –0–
