Beijing, July 25 /Xinhua/ — The Jingdezhen Craft Porcelain Industry Heritage Project was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List on Saturday, filling a long-standing gap in this list in the field of porcelain heritage.
Located in Jiangxi Province (Eastern China), these porcelain production sites consist of five parts, collectively showcasing the evolution of Jingdezhen’s handicraft porcelain industry from the 10th to the 19th century.
A distinctive feature of the project is the comprehensive reflection of the entire porcelain production chain. These historical sites cover the full range of the production process – from raw material and fuel extraction sites to production centers and water transport networks – allowing for a complete understanding of the traditional artisanal porcelain industry.
“This is the first time we have applied for the inclusion of an entire industrial chain on the World Heritage List,” said Xiao Li, Deputy Director of the Department of World Cultural Heritage at the State Administration of Cultural Heritage of China.
