Beijing, July 24 /Xinhua/ — Two optical satellites, “Dongpo-13” and “Dongpo-14,” out of six satellites in this series developed by MinoSpace and Huantian Wisdom, transmitted high-resolution images just 1.5 hours after reaching orbit on Wednesday, setting a new record for the fastest image acquisition by Chinese private company satellites.

This achievement surpassed the previous record of two hours, set in May. According to Chang Wujun, Deputy General Director of the satellite manufacturing company MinoSpace, faster data processing indicates the increasing responsiveness and technological potential of Chinese commercial satellite remote sensing systems.

According to him, this technology allows solving a wide range of tasks – from agriculture and forestry to disaster relief and urban planning, and increasing the speed of obtaining images is crucial for the effectiveness of this technology. Traditional systems often require several days from the moment the task is set to receiving the image. In emergencies such as floods or landslides, every hour saved can play a decisive role in decision-making.

As reported by Chan Wu-Jun, the company is now working on a data processing model directly in orbit using artificial intelligence for object identification, anomaly detection, and prioritization of data transmission. This allows ground service personnel to be freed from downloading and processing large amounts of raw data and to receive information in a near real-time mode for monitoring natural disasters, emergency response, and dynamic surveillance. -0-
