Beijing, July 24 /Xinhua/ — The China Meteorological Administration (CMA) activated on Thursday a level 3 emergency response mode due to the typhoon, heavy rains, and severe convective weather phenomena, the CMA reported.
The tropical depression that formed over waters east of the Philippines is expected to develop into the 12th typhoon of this year named “Noul” within the next 12 hours, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) of China reported, issuing a “yellow” level warning in connection with the typhoon.
According to the forecast, the typhoon will make landfall in the coastal area between Zhuhai in Guangdong Province and Zhangpu in Fujian Province from the evening of July 25 to the morning of July 26. After making landfall, the typhoon will move northwestward, gradually weakening.
Under the influence of the typhoon, winds will gradually strengthen along the coast of Guangdong and Fujian provinces over the next three days. The total amount of precipitation is expected to reach 150-300 mm in the eastern part of Guangdong Province, the southern part of Fujian Province, and the southern part of Jiangxi Province, and in some areas – from 400 to 450 mm, creating a high risk of natural disasters.
NMC has also issued a “blue” level warning due to heavy rains and a “yellow” level alert for severe convective weather phenomena. From 8:00 PM Thursday to 8:00 PM Friday, rains ranging from heavy to torrential are expected in parts of 10 provincial-level regions, including Shandong Province, with localized heavy downpours in the western part of Shandong Province, northern part of Henan Province, and coastal areas in the south of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
In addition, in some areas of the Shandong, Henan, Anhui, and Jiangsu provinces, storm winds of force 10 and above are expected, and in some places the possibility of tornadoes cannot be ruled out.
