Minsk, July 23 /Xinhua/ — Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin denied rumors about the Belarusian side constructing fortifications on the border with Ukraine. This was reported on Wednesday by the BelTA agency.

V. Khrenin called such kinds of leaks a war in the information field being waged against Belarus. “We fully understand that this is done with only one purpose: to create tension in our society, as well as in the Ukrainian society, driving a wedge and turning us into bitter enemies. This does not correspond to any reality,” he emphasized.

The minister also reminded that earlier the President of Belarus instructed to equip fortified areas along the country’s borders. “This order has been fulfilled. Five fortified areas along the western and northern borders are equipped, and their active improvement is underway. There are no plans to create any fortified areas or defensive lines on the southern border,” said V. Khrenin.

He also pointed out that there is a government program for the improvement and development of the Belarusian Polesie region in the country. In this region, bridges are currently being reconstructed and repaired, roads are being improved, and infrastructure for recreation is being developed. According to the minister, it is this that is perceived as if some sort of military training is taking place. –0–
