Riyadh, July 23 /Xinhua/ — Saudi Arabia and the United States signed an agreement on cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy. This was reported on Thursday in a press release by the Kingdom’s Ministry of Energy.
It is noted that the agreement is based on a longstanding strategic partnership between the two countries and followed a statement on the completion of negotiations on bilateral cooperation in the field of peaceful atomic energy, made by the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud in November last year during a visit to the United States.
The agreement is aimed at strengthening cooperation in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and promoting the exchange of experience, knowledge, and technologies in accordance with the highest international standards of nuclear safety, nuclear security, and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, the ministry said.
