Chengdu, July 23 /Xinhua/ — At the 2026 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) ministerial meeting on digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI), a statement by ministers was adopted. The ministerial meeting, which serves as an important platform for promoting exchanges and cooperation in the field of digital, information, and communication technologies in the Asia-Pacific region (APR), took place on Thursday in Chengdu, the administrative center of Sichuan Province (Southwest China). Commenting on the results of the meeting, the chairman of the meeting, the Minister of Industry and Informatization of the PRC, Li Lecheng, noted that special attention was paid to the accelerated development of communication and computing infrastructure.
According to him, the consensus reached, in particular on specific measures to promote the digital and intellectual transformation of traditional industries and support for medium, small, and micro enterprises in using streamlined digital tools to enhance competitiveness, offers all APEC economies a development path focused on people’s interests and taking local conditions into account.
“China will continue to promote the role of the APEC mechanism, strengthen cooperation with all economies, implement the consensus reached at the meeting, deepen exchanges and cooperation,” added Li Lecheng.
