The delegation of SPbPU, led by the Vice-Rector for Educational Activities Lyudmila Pankova, took part in the Education and Science Days during the Days of St. Petersburg in the Vologda region.
The central event was the interregional scientific and practical conference “University Partnership: Saint Petersburg — Vologda,” organized by Vologda State University. At the ceremonial opening, welcoming remarks were delivered to the participants by the Deputy Governor — Minister of Education of the Vologda Region, Ekaterina Tselikova, the Rector of VGU, Denis Dvornikov, and the Chairman of the Committee on Science and Higher Education of St. Petersburg, Andrey Maksimov.
The plenary session was dedicated to scientific developments and technologies used for the development of Vologda and Saint Petersburg. At three sections, the application of artificial intelligence in education and science, advanced manufacturing technologies for mechanical engineering, as well as issues of studying and preserving historical and cultural heritage sites were discussed.
A round table was also held with the participation of representatives of government authorities and heads of universities from the two regions. Saint Petersburg was represented by the Chairman of the Committee on Science and Higher Education, Andrey Maksimov; the Director of the Saint Petersburg Scientific Foundation, Yuri Snisarenko; the Rector of the Saint Petersburg National Research Academic University named after Zh. I. Alferov, Alexander Naumov; the Rector of the Saint Petersburg State Technological Institute (Technical University), Andrey Shevchik; the First Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of Saint Petersburg State University, Anastasia Yarmosch; the Vice-Rector for Educational Activities of SPbPU, Lyudmila Pankova; and the Director of the Research Coordination Center of the Saint Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation, Dmitry Redka.From the Vologda region, the discussion included Minister of Education Ekaterina Tselikova, Rector of Vologda State University Denis Dvornikov, Rector of Cherepovets State University Olga Lyaginova, Director of the Vologda branch of RANEPA Andrey Barabanov, and Vice-Rector for Research at the Vologda State Dairy Farming Academy named after N. V. Vereshchagin Andrey Kuzin.
Current issues of cooperation between Saint Petersburg and the Vologda region in the field of education were discussed. The participants agreed to continue exchanging best practices. Lyudmila Pankova shared her experience of cooperation with universities in the Vologda region in her speech.
“The Polytechnic University already has a systematic interaction with Vologda universities. Despite the fact that with Vologda State University the cooperation agreement was signed not long ago, the teachers of Vologda State University have already completed an internship at the advanced engineering school “Digital Engineering” of SPbPU. We are currently actively working with Cherepovets State University on a tripartite network interaction, where the strategic industrial partner is the Engineering Center “Kronshtadt”. — emphasized the vice-rector.
The participants of the round table learned that the Institute of Physics and Mathematics at SPbPU uses unique laboratory equipment and computer modeling with VR technologies, successfully applied in the educational process. The Minister of Education of the Vologda Region, Ekaterina Tselikova, expressed interest in the possibility of cooperation with the Polytechnic University in the area of fundamental training in physics and mathematics for educational institutions of the Vologda Region, the implementation of VR technologies in teaching specialized subjects, as well as the organization of professional development for university lecturers and school physics and mathematics teachers in the region.
Another significant event of the Education and Science Days of Saint Petersburg in the Vologda region was the round table “Development of Academic Science in the Region: Experience of the Vologda Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.” The director of the VSC RAS, Alexandra Shabunova, along with heads of scientific laboratories and centers, spoke about current scientific research dedicated to socio-demographic and socio-economic issues, spatial and structural economics.
The delegation of SPbPU paid special attention to the discussion of issues related to the use of artificial intelligence. Lyudmila Pankova noted the university’s world-class competencies, advanced multidisciplinary research, and high-tech developments for high-tech industry in the direction of “Artificial Intelligence for solving cross-industry tasks.”
“Internships and professional development for research staff can become a good tool for implementing artificial intelligence technologies in the scientific research activities of the Vologda Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.” — she emphasized.
Olga Kalinina, Director of the Graduate School of Production Management, discussed the possibility of conducting joint research commissioned by industrial partners with Evgeny Lukin, Head of the Center for Structural Research and Territorial Development Forecasting at the All-Russian Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, based on the Graduate School of Production Management’s research laboratory “Management of Production Systems and Business Processes.” The laboratory conducts research on developing commercialization strategies for innovative technologies for manufacturing enterprises, studying market potential, and evaluating the prospects for producing new products and implementing new technologies developed in the industrial sector.
Deputy Director of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Transport Pavel Kovalyov visited the research and production enterprise “Alexandra-Plus,” which manufactures ultrasonic equipment. The outcome of the meeting was an agreement to utilize the company’s research and production potential in conducting R&D, as well as for students of IMMiT to undertake internships at the enterprise.
At the meeting of Pavel Kovalyov with the management of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Energy and Transport of VSU, the directions of cooperation between the specialized institutes of the two universities were determined, including within the framework of network interaction in the field of “Mechanical Engineering”, training of highly qualified personnel, dissertation defense in the dissertation councils of SPbPU, as well as the implementation of joint grant and competitive applications.
At the end of the visit, the delegation from the Polytechnic University laid wreaths and flowers at the memorial “To the Residents of Besieged Leningrad” at the Poshekhonskoye Cemetery and visited the Governor’s College of Folk Crafts.
