Beijing, July 22 /Xinhua/ — Zhang Han, the official representative of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of the PRC, emphasized on Wednesday that no one can prevent exchanges and cooperation between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait or the achievement of the mutually beneficial results they bring.
Zhang Han made this statement at a regular press conference, responding to journalists’ questions regarding the recent remarks by Zhou Runtuai, the head of the island’s executive authority.
Zhang Han noted that the latest data on trade turnover between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait fully confirmed the strong complementarity of industrial structures on both sides of the strait and the huge potential for further cooperation.
In the first half of 2026, the trade volume between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait reached 185 billion US dollars. Imports from mainland China to Taiwan increased by 22.5 percent year-on-year to 133.1 billion US dollars, while exports from mainland China to Taiwan grew by 32.9 percent to 31.9 billion US dollars.
Zhang Han emphasized that the expansion of economic and trade cooperation and the deepening of integrated development between the two sides of the strait serve the common interests of businesses and populations on both sides, adding that this is also a natural result of the joint action of economic laws and market principles.
