Manila, July 22 /Xinhua/ — China and India, as representatives of emerging economies and important members of the Global South, must keep in mind the well-being of all humanity, demonstrate the responsibility of major countries, strengthen the positive momentum of bilateral relations, and enhance coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs. The head of the Chinese foreign affairs department called on the parties to make a positive contribution to promoting multipolarity and the democratization of international relations.
According to him, China is ready to jointly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries with India, maintain close high-level exchanges, expand cooperation in areas such as the economy, trade, media, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges, as well as properly resolve sensitive issues.
Wan Yi called on the parties to strengthen coordination and cooperation, promote the development of the cooperation mechanism within the framework of the “expanded BRICS,” and more effectively represent and protect the common interests of developing countries.
The Chinese side will continue to support India in organizing the BRICS summit this year, he added.
S. Jaishankar, for his part, stated that India respects China’s sovereignty and its position on matters concerning Taiwan and Xinjiang remains unchanged. As the Indian diplomat pointed out, India consistently promotes positive and cooperative bilateral relations, focusing on the future. –0–
