The excavation of the second (right) tunnel section between the Shchyolkovskaya and Golyanovo metro stations has been completed. Thus, the underground construction work on the under-construction section of the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya line of the Moscow Metro is fully finished.

According to the Mayor of Moscow, the construction scheme and technological process will allow the commissioning of the Golyanovo station without delay, and tunneling towards the Vostochny district will begin simultaneously.

The tunnel boring complex “Yulia” completed the excavation of the right running tunnel between the “Shchelkovskaya” and “Golyanovo” stations from February to July this year. The tunnel length is 1.67 kilometers. The route runs under the roadway of Uralskaya and Ussuriyskaya streets, under Bela Kuna Square, as well as along the Golyanovsky Pond. The maximum depth at which the tunnel is located reaches 19 meters.

The construction of underground tunnel facilities (a dewatering plant) on the section “Shchyolkovskaya” — “Golyanovo” is being carried out under complex engineering-geological and hydrogeological conditions. To secure the construction site and retain the water-saturated soils, specialists are using ground freezing technology. It allows the creation of a reliable frozen soil barrier that prevents groundwater from entering the structures being built.
The new section of the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya line, including turnaround sidings, will stretch for 2.6 kilometers. The “Golyanovo” station, which will be the terminal, will be located along Ussuriyskaya Street — at the intersection with Sakhalinskaya and Khabarovskaya Streets.
The station is being designed with an island platform and two underground vestibules with exits on both sides of Ussuriyskaya Street. The exits will be equipped with elevators. One of the exits will be integrated with a multifunctional complex that will include rest areas for locomotive crews, areas for passenger services, and other spaces.
The station’s design will reference a space theme. This decision is connected to the fact that a major enterprise, “Geophysics-Cosmos,” is located in Golyanovo, with a history dating back to the 19th century. It is engaged in the development and manufacturing of optoelectronic orientation and navigation devices for spacecraft of various purposes. The company employs about a thousand people.
High-quality metal of Russian production is planned to be used in the decoration. The lobbies of the future station will be designed in a futuristic style with the use of clear geometric shapes and made as convenient as possible for passengers.
The station will be adapted for people with limited mobility. Passengers will have access to all the usual Moscow transport services: modern navigation, as well as the latest turnstiles and ticket machines produced in the capital. Comfortable trains of the “Rusich” series will run along the line.
Currently, enclosing structures are being erected at the site, the soil is being developed, and the main monolithic elements of the station complex are being installed.
The opening of the station will improve the quality of transportation services in the Golyanovo district, where over 160,000 people live. The expected passenger flow will be 28,000 people per day at the initial stage and will reach 31,000 by 2030. Thanks to this, city residents will be able to save up to 30 minutes a day. For example, the trip to the Elektrozavodskaya station The Large Circle Line will be reduced by almost half — from 40 to 25 minutes, and to Izmaylovo station Moscow Central Circle — one and a half times: from 30 to 20 minutes. In addition, it will become more convenient to reach the Losiny Ostrov National Park, which is popular among residents and visitors of the capital.
“Golyánovo” will reduce the load on the “Shchelkovskaya” station by approximately 30 percent — from 79 to 61 thousand passengers per day. Before the station opens, routes and intervals of surface transport in the area will be adjusted. This will help reduce the number of feeder routes and make access to the metro more convenient.
Today, the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya line is the longest radius of the Moscow metro. Its length exceeds 45 kilometers, and it has 22 stations that connect 14 districts with a total population of 1.5 million people. Passengers can make 21 convenient transfers to other lines and diameters. More than 750 thousand people use this line daily.
After the commissioning of the “Golyanovo” station, the length of the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya line will increase to 47.7 kilometers, the number of stations will reach 23, and the daily passenger flow will increase to 790 thousand people. The stable operation of the line is ensured by two electric depots — “Mitino” (one of the largest in Moscow and Europe) and “Izmaylovo.” Thanks to them, trains run with minimal intervals during peak hours.
Results of the implementation of the Moscow Metro construction program
Since 2011, Government of Moscow has completed the construction and reconstruction of more than 260 kilometers of lines, 127 stations, 14 electric depots (including the Brateyevo car repair plant) of the Moscow Metro and the Moscow Central Circle.
In addition, lines of the ground metro MCD-1, MCD-2, MCD-3, and MCD-4 have been put into operation jointly with JSC “Russian Railways”. These are 303 kilometers of tracks and 138 stations.
