Minsk, July 21 /Xinhua/ — Belarus is interested in strengthening the practical dimension of cooperation with the countries belonging to the League of Arab States (LAS). This was stated on Monday by the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, during a meeting with the Chairman of the Arab Parliament, Muhammad Ahmed Al-Yamahi. The relevant information was published by the press service of the head of the Belarusian state on the same day.
These days, a delegation of the Arab Parliament is on a working visit to Belarus. The delegation includes representatives from the UAE, Egypt, Libya, and Jordan. During the visit, a meeting was held between the President of Belarus and the Chairman of the Arab Parliament, during which issues of trade and economic cooperation and the exchange of experience in lawmaking were discussed.
A. Lukashenko emphasized the importance of Belarus’s relations with all Arab countries being at the same level as with the UAE, Egypt, Libya, Jordan. He also stressed that the parliamentary dimension plays a significant role in building close friendly relations, which should be based on the economy.
“And at any moment, at your request, we are ready to meet with you and discuss the urgent issues of our relations. We would like them to have a practical dimension,” said the President of Belarus, adding that Arab countries might be interested in developing cooperation with Belarus in many areas.
Moreover, the Belarusian leader pointed out that the Iranian conflict has shown the necessity for Arab countries to focus not only on large wealthy countries of the world, but also on countries of equal stature — such as Belarus. “We offer you cooperation that would diversify your current relations,” emphasized A. Lukashenko.
In turn, the Chairman of the Arab Parliament assured that the organization will continue to strive to strengthen and develop cooperation with Belarus. “We are following the active development of Belarus’s relations with Arab countries and hope that interparliamentary cooperation will continue to meet this high level and support it,” he summarized. –0–
