Beijing, July 21 /Xinhua/ — China has launched a 4-month campaign to protect minors in cyberspace as part of efforts to create a clean, healthy, and orderly internet environment.
The campaign initiated by the State Internet Information Office of China is conducted in two stages.
The first stage of the campaign is timed to coincide with the summer holidays. It will focus on addressing current issues related to content publication, user interaction, and internet marketing.
At this stage of the campaign, issues such as the creation of unwanted cartoon content, the use of artificial intelligence technologies to create inappropriate or distorted versions of classic cartoon characters, as well as the dissemination of materials containing violence or frightening content, will be addressed. In addition, there will be efforts to combat online fraud targeting minors, such as fraudulent schemes designed to deceive them into making payments, the agency informed.
The second stage will focus on regulating the practice of providing platform recommendations, improving sections with educational content, and intensifying the development of special modes for minors.
The State Office of Internet Information has called on local authorities to monitor cyber issues affecting minors, strengthen the accountability of platforms, and tighten measures to curb violations.
