The improvement of the oldest hippodrome in Russia continues as part of a comprehensive reconstruction. Currently, on an area of over 20 hectares, walking spaces and recreational zones are being created, and greening has also begun. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Planning Policy and Construction. Vladimir Efimov.
“In the Begovoy district of the capital, a comprehensive reconstruction of the Central Moscow Hippodrome is nearing completion — the project is over 90 percent ready. Specialists are finishing the construction of the stables and the horse stadium, as well as the restoration of the main building’s premises. Additionally, on the area of over 20 hectares, landscaping is underway — more than a third of the planned work has already been completed. New pedestrian zones are being arranged here, including a promenade between the main building and the horse stadium, and a recreation area with an artificial pond is being created,” said Vladimir Efimov.
Asphalt paving, construction of horse stadium pathways, and installation of sports lighting poles—allowing competitions to be held in cloudy weather and at night—are 75 percent complete.
“Thanks to the landscaping, the territory of the Central Moscow Hippodrome will become a full-fledged space for walks and family leisure. The construction and finishing of the decorative pond bowl have already been completed here; the installation of engineering systems and water treatment equipment is in the final stage. Pedestrian paths are being laid around the pond, and areas for quiet rest by the water are being arranged. In addition, specialists will install about 100 small architectural forms and carry out comprehensive landscaping,” added the head of the Moscow City Department of Civil Construction. Alexey Alexandrov.
During the greening of the territory of the Central Moscow Hippodrome, more than three thousand trees and shrubs will be planted. Among them are pines, spruces, chestnuts, and Norway maples. One of the expressive elements will be a one-and-a-half-kilometer-long living hedge of cotoneaster, which will appear along the racetrack.
In addition, it is planned to break up almost 6.5 hectares of lawn — work on an area of more than two hectares has already been completed. Before starting, vertical planning of the territory was carried out, during which the relief of the site was leveled and a fertile soil layer was laid.
A spacious parking lot will be created for competition participants and hippodrome staff. About 50 parking spaces will be organized here. Among them, nine enlarged parking spaces are designated for people with reduced mobility, seven special spaces are reserved for horse transport vehicles. Two parking spaces will be equipped with charging stations for electric vehicles.
