In the thermogalvanic production at the KAMAZ Engine Plant, a new automatic press for shaft straightening has been put into operation. The equipment was purchased as part of the “Axle Production” project.

On the new press, the straightening process (to eliminate warping of shafts caused by their cooling during hardening) is performed on 16 types of shafts. More than 400 parts need to be processed per shift. “Previously, the adjustment was made on a press with manual control. The operator placed the shaft on the supports, rotated the part, determined the bending point, and performed the operation, – said Chief Engineer of TGP Sergey Frolov. – At the same time, three presses were involved, with tooling adjusted for a specific type of shaft.

The new automatic press replaced all three old ones. It is equipped with software: the necessary programs for performing straightening operations are loaded into the press control system. The operator only needs to select the required program, place the part on the supports, and start the process. “This way, we have completely eliminated the human factor; the press performs corrections automatically. There are many advantages: the quality of the parts has improved, labor productivity has increased by more than 50%, and defects have been eliminated because the press ensures high precision.”, – noted Sergey Frolov.

Another positive point: the speed of shaft processing has also increased, allowing the plan to be executed without delays.
