Beijing, July 20 /Xinhua/ — The main suspect in a major computer information system hacking case was repatriated from Vietnam to China as a result of a joint cross-border law enforcement operation, the Ministry of Public Security /MPS/ of China reported on Monday.
A suspect with the surname Pan is accused of leading criminal activities: he created and maintained phishing websites, through which he induced users to download installation files of malicious software, aiming to illegally gain control over victims’ computers, steal user information, and obtain unlawful profit.
The case was solved by the police of Shandong province in eastern China in July 2025. Later, from July 2025 to May 2026, public security organs conducted a thorough investigation and organized several series of targeted raids, during which several criminal gangs involved in this case were dismantled. In August 2025, the main suspect surnamed Pan fled abroad.
Vietnamese police successfully arrested a fugitive on June 4 this year with active support from the Chinese police and the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam. At the same time, public security officers in Guangdong Province and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region carried out synchronized operations to capture criminals, during which the remaining 11 suspects in this case were detained, the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) reported. A suspect named Pan was brought to China on June 6 by a task force of Chinese police.
The Ministry stated that this case underscores China’s determination to pursue individuals evading justice and promised to strengthen international law enforcement cooperation to rigorously combat cybercrime. -0-
