Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev spoke at the official event and introduced the new rector of the Russian State Agrarian University – Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy. The position was taken by RAS academician, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences Vyacheslav Lukomets. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Agriculture Oksana Lut.
“Timiryazev Academy is the oldest agricultural university in Russia, the alma mater of thousands of professionals whose lives are connected with the agro-industrial complex. The university confidently retains the title of the flagship of Russian agricultural education. The specialist training program built here is a good example of a classical higher education institution combined with innovative methods. The university participates in various federal programs, develops science, implements advanced projects, including in the fields of biotechnology, digital transformation, artificial intelligence implementation, breeding, and genetics. In 2026, the Timiryazev Genomic Center was established on the basis of the academy. In addition, in recent years, a large-scale infrastructure modernization has been carried out, the adjacent territory is being improved, and the “Timiryazev Center” has appeared — a sought-after educational and exhibition space,” said Dmitry Patrushev.
The effectiveness of the chosen approach is confirmed by facts. For example, in just a few years, the number of university students increased by 35%. Graduates have the necessary theoretical and practical foundation to work in the modern agricultural industry, and the university is represented in national and international rankings.
“Undoubtedly, much of all this is thanks to the team, which has been formed here under the attentive leadership of Vladimir Ivanovich Trukhachev. I would like to thank all of you for this,” Dmitry Patrushev addressed the university leadership.
The Deputy Prime Minister announced the appointment of the Russian Academy of Sciences academician, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences Vyacheslav Lukomets as the university rector starting July 17. Dmitry Patrushev emphasized that assuming office by the new leader will give impetus to addressing priority issues.
At the conclusion of the event, Dmitry Patrushev awarded the former rector of RSU – Timiryazev Agricultural Academy, Vladimir Trukhachyov, with the P.A. Stolypin Medal, 2nd class.
