Moscow, July 18 /Xinhua/ — A thematic concert celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Russia partnership and strategic interaction, and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation between the PRC and the Russian Federation was held on Friday in the Great Hall of the Moscow State Conservatory named after P. I. Tchaikovsky. The event was attended by the Ambassador of the PRC to Russia Zhang Hanhui and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Andrei Rudenko.
The concert program included 20 pieces, combining masterpieces of Chinese and Russian classical music. The stage featured well-known Chinese works such as “Ode to the Red Flag,” “Good News from Beijing,” and “Me and My Motherland,” as well as world-famous excerpts from ballets or operas by great Russian composers — P. Tchaikovsky, M. Glinka, and A. Borodin. The musical evening became a kind of connecting link, vividly demonstrating the deep humanitarian intertwining and strong bonds of friendship between the two countries.
In his opening speech, Zhang Hanhui noted that exactly 30 years ago, the leaders of the two countries signed a joint declaration and announced the beginning of an equal and trusting partnership aimed at strategic cooperation in the 21st century. Since that moment, a new phase began.
“And 25 years ago the Treaty on Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation was signed. It enshrined our main principle: “forever friends and never enemies.” It also confirmed that we build relations without alliances, confrontation, or targeting anyone. This treaty became a true model of interstate relations and an important milestone in our shared history,” said Zhang Hanhui.
According to him, over these thirty years the relationship between China and Russia has been tested numerous times, and today it is at its peak: a comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction in the new era — the highest point in the entire history of their relations.
A. Rudenko stated in his speech that the Treaty on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation played a key role in shaping a new model of Russian-Chinese relations based on mutual respect, equality, and peaceful coexistence. “Speaking in modern terms, the document has become a kind of motherboard that reliably ensures the high reliability and comprehensive nature of the entire contractual system of our relations,” he said.
A. Rudenko emphasized that the principles laid down in the treaty have stood the test of time and remain relevant in modern conditions. Among them, he highlighted respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-interference in internal affairs, mutual support, renunciation of the use of force, and peaceful resolution of disputes.
“After two and a half decades, we can confidently state that 25 years ago our leaders made a truly wise and long-term decision,” said A. Rudenko. He emphasized that the treaty remains a solid foundation of bilateral relations and fully meets the interests of Russia and China.
The concert was held under the slogan “25 years together creating a history of friendship.” Masterpieces of world classical music were performed by the Symphony Orchestra “Academy of Russian Music” under the direction of artistic director and chief conductor Ivan Nikiforchin. –0–
