NSU students won a record number of medals at the “I am a Professional” Olympiad in 2026

The results of the 8th season of the All-Russian Student Olympiad “I am a Professional” have been summed up. This year, students of Novosibirsk State University have won 11 medals — twice as much as last season.

The All-Russian Student Olympiad “I am a professional” is one of Russia’s largest educational projects, which allows students to test their knowledge and practical skills in specialized areas of study. The Olympiad tasks are developed jointly by leading Russian universities and more than 700 industry partners. Participation in the project opens up opportunities for students for internships, admission to the next level of education, and building a professional career.

At the end of the season, NSU students won one gold, four silver, and six bronze medals.

Gold medalist in the field of “Mathematics” became a graduate student Faculty of Information Technology Ivan Frolov.

Silver medals were awarded to:

Alexey Vopilovsky, Faculty of Physics, — direction “Physics”;

Anna Skotareva, Faculty of Natural Sciences,— specialties “Biotechnology” and “Ecology”;

Alexander Golovko, Faculty of Natural Sciences, — field of study “Bioengineering and Bioinformatics.”

The bronze medalists were:

Alexander Tomilov, Faculty of Natural Sciences, — “Chemistry”;

Maria Shcherbatova, Faculty of Natural Sciences, — “Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics”;

Mikhail Bardukov,Faculty of Natural Sciences,— “Ecology”;

Roman Gevorgyan, Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, — “Mathematics”;

Nazim Mustafin, Faculty of Natural Sciences, — “Biotechnology”;

Alexander Golovko, Faculty of Natural Sciences,— “Biology.”

Student of the Chemistry Department at the Faculty of Natural Sciences Alexander Tomilov won the bronze medal at the Chemistry Olympiad.

— The final round took place at Moscow State University and consisted of practical tasks in inorganic and coordination chemistry. This year, there was little time to complete all the tasks, so it was important to manage to carry out all the syntheses and answer the theoretical questions. I was nervous during the round due to the time constraints and did not manage to complete some tasks, so I was very glad when I found out that I had scored enough points to receive a bronze medal. This is a great achievement, and I am happy that I am able to represent NSU in this way at the All-Russian Olympiad. — Alexander said.

Silver medalist in the field of “Physics” Alexey Vopilovsky noted that during the final stage, the main focus was on solving tasks.

— The Olympiad went routinely, the only thing was the calculator I brought stopped working, but one of the FEN members in the audience helped me out. Most of the time I was focused on the tasks and didn’t feel any emotions; only in the last minutes did I hurry to finalize one solution to the final answer, — Alexey shared.

Bronze medalist in the field of “Biotechnology” Nazim Mustafin participated in the olympiad for the third time already.

— This year, I participated for the third time in the biotechnology olympiad, which took place at Tomsk State University. Overall, the organization was at a good level; the tasks were dedicated to the main sections of biotechnology. For example, it was nice to see this year problems about modern theranostics methods (therapy+diagnostics), a field quite close to me due to my scientific interests. We also had to write a small project of our choice.

This year, I tried to improve my result and overall I succeeded. It was nice that my knowledge of chemistry came in handy (I am studying in the chemistry department, and biology and biotechnology are not my main subjects). For example, I solved the project relying only on my knowledge of organic and bioinorganic chemistry. When I saw the result, I was a bit upset because one problem was completely not counted, but I managed to get the points back on appeal. After that, I just waited, since my average result was within the medal range, but it was unclear what the final outcome would be. — Nazim said.

This season, 588 NSU students applied to participate in the “I am a Professional” olympiad, and 196 advanced to the final stage.

The “I Am a Professional” Olympiad brings together bachelor’s, specialist, and master’s students from across the country and helps them demonstrate their abilities in their chosen profession. Winners and prize-winners are included in the national talent pool, gain the opportunity to intern with leading employers in the country, and can also benefit from privileges when entering master’s programs, postgraduate studies, or residency programs. Medalists of the Olympiad also receive monetary awards.

All-Russian Student Olympiad “I am a professional” — is a project of the Presidential platform “Russia is a land of opportunity”. Implemented within the framework of the national project “Youth and Children” with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia.
