Tehran, July 16 /Xinhua/ — American shells struck the vicinity of Iran’s Qeshm region and the port city of Bandar Abbas in Hormozgan province in the south of the country on Thursday evening. Local media reported this.

According to the Iranian semi-official news agency Mehr, one of the shells hit an area near the Qeshm region at 18:10 local time /14:40 GMT/. The report notes that more detailed information will be released following the results of a preliminary investigation.

In addition, the semi-official Iranian news agency Fars reported that the United States also struck the outskirts of Bandar Abbas at 18:20 and 18:40 local time. According to the media, citing a statement from provincial authorities, the attacks did not result in any casualties or material damage.

For several days now, clashes between Iran and the United States have continued, despite the memorandum of understanding signed in mid-June, according to which the parties were supposed to begin negotiations within 60 days with the aim of concluding a final agreement. –0–
