Beijing, July 15 /Xinhua/ — Ensuring the safety, stability, and uninterrupted operation of global production and supply chains is a shared responsibility of all countries. This was stated on Wednesday by Lin Jian, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.
Lin Jian made the corresponding statement at a regular briefing for journalists, responding to a question about a publication in the Financial Times. It presents data from a recent study which indicates that Europe and the USA will need to invest an additional 23.6 trillion US dollars over the next 25 years to eliminate dependence on China in critical industries by 2050, and that in the short term it is practically impossible to build alternative production and supply chains.
According to the Chinese diplomat, this statement actually reflects the deep interconnection and mutual complementarity of global production and supply chains and the fact that all humanity forms a community with shared interests. As he noted, disruptions in links, protectionist barriers, and forced restructuring of production and supply chains are not only costly but also contradict both market laws and business choices, which ultimately will result in even greater expenses and even less benefit for everyone.
“True security stems from cooperation, not isolation,” Lin Jian emphasized. He stated that China remains committed to a high level of openness and will continue to provide the world with high-quality goods and cooperation opportunities, relying on its super-large market and integrated industrial system.
“We are ready to join forces with other countries to counter the logic of bloc confrontation, to promote the real transformation of production and distribution chains into ‘win-win chains,’ and to give a sustainable impetus to the overall development of the entire world,” concluded Lin Jian. –0–
