Cultural sites in the historic regions of Russia serve as venues for the development of the creative potential of hundreds of artistic groups. The preservation and repair of such infrastructure enables residents to spend their free time productively, developing their talents in clubs and studios, and participating in creative events. To date, about 500 buildings have been commissioned. The restoration of the ‘Molodezhny’ Palace of Culture in the historic center of Mariupol has now been completed. This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.
“We began the restoration of cultural sites in the reunited regions as soon as residents started returning to their homes, and children went back to kindergartens and schools. It was important to ensure that everyone who wished had the opportunity to express themselves creatively and share their constructive experience. To date, hundreds of such institutions have opened their doors, including in Mariupol. For example, the building of the ‘Molodezhny’ Palace of Culture, also known to the city’s residents as the ‘Continental’ hotel. It was built at the end of the 19th century, and the builders were tasked with restoring the historical appearance of the building, which was damaged in 2022, as accurately as possible. The Palace of Culture will house a Center of Culture and Arts, where performances, film screenings, exhibitions of artworks and paintings are planned,” said Marat Khusnullin.
The Deputy Prime Minister added that the center also plans to develop educational activities: to conduct lectures, master classes, and sessions in music, choreography, visual arts, and other creative fields.
“Each such facility becomes a focal point for residents of all ages: ideas are born here, talents are revealed, and family traditions are strengthened. We are returning to the people of Mariupol not just walls, but a living environment for creativity, communication, and inspiration. It is exactly this kind of infrastructure that truly makes our regions comfortable for living, filling them with meaning and joy,” noted Deputy Minister of Construction and Housing and Communal Services Almaz Khusainov.
The restoration of the Palace of Culture building in Mariupol was carried out under the supervision of the EPC “Unified Customer in the Construction Sector.” On an area of about 5,000 sq.m, the damaged structure was repaired, the roofing, glazing and engineering systems were replaced, and the historical interiors and facade were recreated.
“Working on the restoration of this site, specialists relied on photographs and drawings preserved in various historical archives, which allowed them to recreate the authentic appearance of the building. For example, thanks to such documents and the surviving decorative items, they were able to reproduce the unique balusters on the historic staircases and the plaster items of the interior decoration. The meticulous work of the builders and restorers not only enabled the revival of the heavily damaged building but also preserved its unique creative atmosphere,” added Karen Oganesyan, the General Director of ‘Unified Customer’.
