St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (SPbGASU) continues enrollment for the new training profile, opened in 2026 at the Faculty of Construction — “Restoration of Buildings and Structures”. The specialization involves training restoration engineers on working with cultural heritage sites.

Special attention in the new educational model will be given to the engineering and technological training of restorers, including the study of theoretical mechanics, principles of structural operation, materials science, as well as significant focus on information (digital) modeling technologies.

Despite the priority given to engineering and technological disciplines, the program also includes training in drawing and graphic techniques. As noted by the dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering Andrey Nikulin, the new profile reflects the modern trend of integrating architectural and engineering education, so the program includes creative and humanitarian disciplines, which will allow for the formation of a comprehensive understanding of the profession.

In 2026, there are 50 state-funded places and 70 contract places available for applicants.

Entrance exams (Unified State Exam) for the specialty “Restoration of Buildings and Structures” in order of priority:

1. Mathematics

2. Physics, computer science, chemistry (optional)

3. Russian language

Additional creative tests are not provided for admission to the Faculty of Civil Engineering at SPbGASU.

The development of the new profile “Restoration of Buildings and Structures” is underway at SPbGASU in close collaboration with the professional community. An important milestone in this work was the creation of the Consortium “Preservation of Architectural Heritage”, the agreement which was signed on March 24.

The importance of developing a new training profile was emphasized in his speech at VI National (All-Russian) Scientific and Practical Conference with International Participation “Reconstruction and Restoration of Architectural Heritage” Chairman of the Committee for State Control, Use, and Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments of Saint Petersburg (KGIOP), Alexey Mikhaylov: “A restoration architect is a specialist who must understand the intentions of previous generations and pass them on. But an equally important role is that of the restoration engineer. This is a unique profession that requires a deep understanding of the history of architecture and the ability to integrate it with modern technologies.”

The consortium has brought together representatives from science, education, government authorities, and business. Its activities are aimed at the development of scientific research, the implementation of innovative technologies, the improvement of educational programs, and the training of highly qualified specialists. Thanks to this collaboration, students of the new profile will have the opportunity to learn from leading industry experts, participate in real projects for the preservation of cultural heritage sites, and acquire competencies demanded by modern restoration practice even during their studies.
