Tashkent, July 13 /Xinhua/ — A new casting and rolling complex has been put into operation at the Uzbek Metallurgical Plant /Uzmetkombinat/, where the country’s first production of hot-rolled sheet steel has been launched. This was reported by the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.

The design capacity of the new complex is 1 million tons of hot-rolled sheet per year, and the annual value of the produced goods is estimated at 8 trillion soms /approximately 660 million US dollars/.

The launch of the capacities is expected to fully meet the internal needs of the metallurgical plants in Tashkent and Samarkand for sheet metal rolling and to replace the import of this raw material. The enterprise has created 1,200 new jobs.

The commissioning of the complex is part of the modernization program of Uzbekistan’s heavy industry. –0–
