Beijing, July 13 /Xinhua/ — In the first half of 2026, 9,459 China-Europe/Asia freight trains passed through the railway checkpoints of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (Northwest China), an increase of 6.7 percent year-on-year, reported the Chinese daily newspaper “Xinjiang Daily.”
Starting this year, many regions of China have been steadily increasing the number of train departures as part of the China-Europe/Asia international freight transportation, resulting in a rise in the number of such trains passing through the Xinjiang railway checkpoint.
In order to ensure the efficient operation of the aforementioned trains, Xinjiang railway authorities coordinate resources such as stations and loading and unloading equipment, and prioritize the transshipment, sorting of wagons, and dispatch of China-Europe/Asia freight trains, continuously increasing the transport capacity of each such train.
The mentioned agencies are also improving the special service mechanism for regular China-Europe freight trains that operate on a fixed schedule throughout the entire route. To date, the number of these train routes passing through the Xinjiang border crossings Alashankou and Khorgos is respectively 8 and 4, with their movement frequency through these two checkpoints reaching 27 and 4 times per week respectively.
It is reported that at the Alashankou and Khorgos railway stations, the process of organizing freight transportation by China-Europe trains continues to be improved, and the standards of the entire chain’s operation, including reception, sorting of cars, transshipment, and dispatch, are being perfected in order to increase the efficiency of such trains’ movement.
“Considering the real situation related to transport and cargo flows, we dynamically optimize the work organization plan, thanks to which the current number of freight trains China-Europe/Asia passing through Alashankou station reaches an average of 24 per day,” noted the administration of Alashankou railway station. -0-
