Doha, July 12 /Xinhua/ — The former Emir of Qatar, the father of the current ruler of the country, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, passed away on Sunday at the age of 74. This was reported by the Emir’s office.
“The Emir’s office mourns the passing of the respected leader of the country, the father of the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani,” the statement says.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani ruled Qatar from 1995 to 2013, after which he handed over power to his son, the current Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. –0–
