Beijing, July 11 /Xinhua/ — The Ministry of Finance of the PRC and the Ministry of Emergency Management of the PRC have jointly allocated 40 million yuan /about 5.88 million US dollars/ from the central disaster relief fund to support emergency rescue and recovery operations in Fujian and Zhejiang provinces, which were affected by Typhoon Bavi.
A powerful typhoon brought torrential rains to certain areas of the eastern coast of China, causing severe flooding and other emergencies.
The State Flood and Drought Control Headquarters of China has introduced a level 2 emergency response mode in Fujian and Zhejiang provinces due to the threat of floods and typhoons.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the allocated funds will be directed towards emergency measures to combat flooding and eliminate the consequences of the typhoon. Priority funding will be used for the evacuation and resettlement of affected residents, elimination of immediate safety threats, inspection and prevention of possible secondary disasters, as well as other urgent emergency rescue operations.
“Bavi,” the ninth typhoon of the current year, is expected to make landfall between Sanmen and Cangnan counties in Zhejiang Province (East China) in the early hours of Sunday. After making landfall, the typhoon is forecasted to move in a northwesterly direction, then turn north. –0–
