On November 28, 2013, the first “Chang’an” container train on the China-Europe route departed from Xi’an to Almaty, turning these two cities into important transit hubs on the Eurasian transport route. Since the first China-Central Asia Summit in 2023, China and Kazakhstan have started cooperating under a new model, consecutively putting modern logistics terminals into operation, thus finding a way out of the “transit economy” deadlock and opening a new era of mutually beneficial development.
Today, thousands of kilometers apart, the China-Kazakhstan terminal in Xi’an and the Kazakhstan-China terminal in Almaty operate synchronously, forming a direct “hub-to-hub” connection and bringing increasing benefits to the peoples of both countries. In 2025, the trade volume between China and Kazakhstan on the China-Europe freight train route reached 5.32 billion yuan, an increase of 19.1%.
