Los Angeles, July 10 /Xinhua/ — In 2026, the Earth experienced the second hottest June on record, while sea surface temperatures reached a record high for the month. This is stated in a report published Thursday by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration /NOAA/.
The report, published by the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) at NOAA, also found that in June, the Arctic and Antarctic sea ice extent was among the ten lowest on record, while global tropical cyclone activity exceeded average levels.
According to the report, in June the average global surface temperature of the Earth exceeded the 20th-century average by 1.09 degrees Celsius, making this June the second hottest on record, surpassed only by 2024.
According to the NCEI’s “Global Annual Temperature Forecast,” it is very likely that 2026 will rank among the five warmest years on record. –0–
