Violations in Sudan
Atrocities committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) against civilians in El Fasher bear the hallmarks of genocide, the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Sudan announced today. The commission’s new report supplements its previous findings by providing additional evidence of sexual violence, enforced disappearances, and mass killings. Experts warned that the RSF are currently employing similar tactics in El Obeid. In accordance with the UN Human Rights Council resolution of July 6, the commission is investigating alleged violations of international law in this area.
Assistance to Venezuela
UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher is visiting Venezuela. This morning, he held a briefing from Caracas for UN member states, calling for an additional $296 million to provide lifesaving assistance over the next six months to 1.3 million people affected by devastating earthquakes. With the additional funds, the humanitarian plan for Venezuela still faces a funding gap of about $600 million.
