The solemn ceremony of awarding gold medals for the IX season of the All-Russian Student Olympiad “I am a professional” took place at the National Center “Russia.” The Olympiad is the flagship project of the Presidential platform “Russia — Land of Opportunities.” Medalists will receive cash prizes of up to 300,000 rubles, benefits when entering the next level of education, and opportunities for professional development. Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University traditionally organizes the Olympiad in the field of “Mechanical Engineering.”
A welcome address to the gold medalists was sent by the First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, head of the Council of the “I am a Professional” Association, Sergey Kiriyenko.
The gold medalists of the “I am a Professional” olympiad will form the country’s intellectual and personnel reserve. I have no doubt: you will not have to sit on the “bench,” because bright talents, new leaders of Russia’s “breakthrough” projects are needed right now. In technology and the digital sphere, in the humanities and exact sciences, in creativity and creative industries, in energy and industry, in diplomacy of a multipolar world and in the social sphere — young people with new, progressive, unique ideas are needed everywhere,” he said.
The Olympiad ensures technological leadership, personnel sovereignty, and the training of young specialists for the country’s key development tasks. The 9th season set a record for the number of unique participants: 215,515 students from almost 1,100 Russian universities and branches tested their skills. As a result of the competitions, 133 participants were awarded gold medals. This season, four Polytech students received gold medals, three silver, and eight bronze.
The career impact of the Olympiad is confirmed by the results of all seasons. More than 300 thousand participants have gained experience in career navigation, and more than 100 thousand students have been employed, including as a result of internships. The “I am a professional” diploma functions as real career capital, emphasized Alexander Shokhin, president of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.
Students competed in 70 fields — from aerospace engineering, artificial intelligence to Russian history and culture, international relations, and inclusive psychology. The organizers were 35 leading universities of the country. In the IX season, 753 employers were involved in the project, including 28 new companies. Business representatives participate in task preparation, career events, industrial tourism, internships, and the selection of young professionals.
Participants in the final for the Polytech-organized program “Mechanical Engineering” solved problems developed by university experts in collaboration with industry partners. The final competitions were held at the facilities of two leading industrial enterprises: for undergraduates at JSC “Power Machines”, and for master’s and specialist students at JSC “Scientific and Production Center “Aquamarine”.
The tasks for the Olympiad were designed taking into account the real problems of industrial partners and allow for the assessment of both theoretical and practical skills of students. Winning the Olympiad is a reward for perseverance, patience, and hard work. I am confident that you have a brilliant future ahead.
