Beijing, July 7 /Xinhua/ — The Ministry of Emergency Management of China on Tuesday activated the national level 4 emergency response mode due to possible geological disasters in Gansu Province in northwest China and dispatched a working group to lead rescue operations on site after several people were injured in a landslide in one of the villages on Tuesday.
The accident occurred on Tuesday at about 6:56 a.m. in the village of Renzang in the Nanhe township of Tanchang county, Lunnan city of this province. According to local authorities, 33 people were trapped under the rubble.
According to rescuers, as of 14:50, 21 people were found, five of whom died despite receiving medical assistance.
The aforementioned ministry called on local authorities to promptly mobilize nearby rescue services, carry out rescue operations based on scientific data, and take measures to prevent secondary disasters.
Local fire and rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene, as well as specialists with radar to monitor the slopes, to assist in the search and rescue operation. -0-
